Our Story
It started in a small barn with a power shaft lathe.
In 1962, Townsend Machine began in a small barn on New Jersey farmland. The first lathe ran off a power shaft driven by a 5 speed transmission. Crude by any modern standard, but capable of holding size in the hands of someone who cared about the work.
The early 1980s brought the first CNC investment, and with it the ability to hold tolerance repeatably across production quantities. That decision set the pattern we still follow: reinvest in capability before customers have to ask for it.
Today Townsend Machine is a top tier precision shop with multi axis turning and milling, Swiss machining, screw machine production, assembly, welding, and a full inspection department, all AS9100D certified and ITAR registered, on the same land where it started.
